⭐ A gentle question as the year closes

Hey there, Reader!

As this year winds down, I’ve been thinking about how tempting it is to believe that the “best parts” of life are already behind us—especially after a big transition like retirement.

This sentiment from Ralph Waldo Emerson feels especially fitting right now:

In other words: nothing has been used up. There is still richness ahead. Still sweetness. Still meaning waiting to be poured.

As the calendar flips toward 2026, instead of asking What should I do next? we invite you to ask a gentler question:

How do I want the next year to feel?

⭐More calm in your days?
⭐A deeper connection with family?
⭐A sense of purpose when you wake up?
⭐Room to breathe…or room to explore?

Feelings are powerful guides—especially in this stage of life. They help shape routines, relationships, and choices in ways that rigid goals never quite can.

We've created a simple guide for creating a tool to support this kind of imagining:

👉 Create a Retirement Vision Board

This isn’t about perfection or productivity. It’s about noticing what matters to you now—and giving yourself permission to want it.

Hey there, Reader! We’ve been on a bit of a hiatus recently. In October, Larissa and I helped move my mom into an independent living retirement community. It was a ton of work, but well worth it. She’s now settled in her new place and is absolutely LOVING IT! As we helped her shop around, we visited quite a few communities, and I’ve got to say that I fell in love with the idea of living in a retirement community when I’m older. I know it’s not for everyone (and honestly, I’d never considered...

close up of paper in a typewriter; typed words: That's my story

Hey there, Reader! The other day, my dad shared a story that made me smile. It was a simple memory that opened a little window into my family history. Here’s the story, in my dad’s words: It was a hot summer day in the ‘50s on Leal St, where I grew up. No air conditioning, so everyone had their windows open. My grandmother, Mamá María, was visiting. She was in the kitchen cooking. I opened a closet to look for something and saw a small case that looked like it might hold a tiny guitar. I...

woman standing on a hill overlooking the ocean; text: the power of new experiences in retirement

Hey there, Reader! Vickie here. This morning, while scrolling through social media, I came across a quote from author and philosopher Alain de Botton that really stuck with me: People only get really interesting when they start to rattle the bars of their cages. It reminded me of something I don’t often admit; I used to think retirement would instantly free me from all the repetition and routines I had during my 9-to-5 life. And in the beginning, it did. But after a while, I noticed I was...
