Hey there, Reader!
Vickie here. This morning, while watering my flowers and herbs (a hobby I’ve picked up since being home for a few years), a little thought bloomed. 🌷
Keep watering what’s green.
Not what’s dead. Not what’s struggling to hang on. Let those things go.
Focus on what’s growing now and let it bloom.
Now that I’m in my 50s, I’ve noticed how tempting it is to pour energy into the parts of life that just aren’t growing anymore—old routines, outdated goals, even friendships that have quietly faded (or feel on the verge of doing so).
But focusing on what’s wilting doesn’t leave much space for new blooms. In fact, it can leave me feeling like I’ve failed in some way.
For example, I love music. I love it so much, I majored in it in college. But, as life sometimes goes, my career path took me a different way.
Regrets? Sometimes. But focusing on that isn’t doing me any good unless I’m prepared to go all into it again. That would be a possibility if I really wanted to, but the hard truth is, I don’t.
I still love playing my guitar, but it’s no longer front and center for me. And that’s okay. That shift made room for other things in my life, like writing and studying other things I’ve always wanted to learn.
We all outgrow things—hobbies, identities, relationships. It’s not a failure. It’s freeing—if you let it be.
So maybe today’s the day to ask yourself:
What’s green in my life?
What’s quietly thriving, asking for a little more attention?
What passions do you want to explore?
Maybe you do want to rekindle something from the past, and that’s great…but don’t feel obligated unless that something really sparks something in you today.
And if you’re ready to plant something new…
